Export Text Messages from an iPhone Backup

Need to keep a conversation outside your phone? Start with records that still exist in a supported backup, and understand the limits before exporting.

Which messages can be exported?

The local prototype can export supported, retained message records from readable, unencrypted local iPhone backups. A record may contain a contact or sender, text, timestamp and source. SMS and iMessage coverage depends on the records actually present. This is not a live service on this website.

A careful export workflow

1. Preserve the original backup and use a copy. 2. Confirm that the source is supported and readable. 3. Inspect retained records and their dates. 4. Export to a separate local folder. 5. Check the output against the source before sharing it.

CSV for a table. JSON for structured records.

CSV is useful for reviewing rows in a spreadsheet. JSON preserves structured records for further processing. Prototype fields include name_or_contact, content, date_utc and origin. A UTC timestamp may differ from the local time shown on the phone; keep that distinction when reviewing dates.

Text, attachments and deleted messages

Readable text does not prove that an image, video or voice attachment is present. An attachment reference is not the attachment itself. Retained records and recovered deleted messages are different claims: this prototype does not guarantee deleted-message recovery.

PDF export, a phone-style transcript and certified legal evidence are not currently offered. CSV/JSON output is not a certified forensic report. Encrypted backups, locked devices and direct cloud extraction are outside the supported input described here.

Keep private conversations private

Export only conversations you are authorized to access. Use a separate destination and review sensitive fields before sharing. This page has no upload form and performs no export; Bena can only illustrate the next steps in a scripted conversation.
